Dynamic Share is a volume sharing solution software that can be used on both direct-attached networks and storage area networks (SANs). It is a transparent solution using NTFS, which permits users to simultaneously read and write from shared volumes on centralized storage. Multiple readers can see the volume that is owned by a writer.
The acquiring and releasing of write access to a volume is automatic to minimize user interaction. When a user does not write to a volume within a designated time, the volume is automatically released, and write access of this volume becomes available for any other user in the workgroup.
As Dynamic Share provides point-to-point connection, all users see the volumes on the storage as if they were local. Dynamic Share's automatic refresh functionality (ARF) gives all users continuous access to the most up-to-date information on the shared storage. Dynamic Share users are provided with increased security and higher speed transfer rates as there is no single point of failure and no bottlenecks.
Without Dynamic Share, volume sharing is very expensive, complicated and requires high maintenance volume storage management, cluster and SAN software and hardware. Multiple users sharing and writing to the same volume would cause data corruption, therefore only a single user may work on a volume. With the sharing of the volume using Dynamic Share, more users are allowed to work on the same volume at the same time, thus increasing user productivity and many other key benefits.
