The StorMacX i100 is an hybrid storage that combines NAS and iSCSI storage resources into a single appliance. StorMacX’s low-cost high-end storage management features include volume management, snapshots, replication, built-in backup utility, user and group quotas, share-level antivirus protection, and built-in notification system, ideal for organizations ranging from hospitals, educational institutions, small to mid-sized business and research labs. The StorMacX product family pairs with Apple’s class-leading Xserve® RAID storage system for cost-effective and simple deployment of IP based NAS and iSCSI storage, allowing file serving and storage consolidation over Ethernet networks, eliminating the need to add additional fibre channel cards to systems requiring access to Xserve® RAID disk space.
Applications for StorMacX
StorMacX i100 is an ideal foundation for all storage consolidation projects for small to mid-sized organizations offering centralized storage consolidation and management for file and block-level storage. With StorMacX i100, this gateway appliance can manage the disk resources of the Xserve® RAID to provision the storage to stranded hosts or workstations over Ethernet networks, eliminating the need to equip all systems with costly fibre channel HBAs. StorMacX i100 supports file serving and sharing for heterogeneous environments with Windows, Linux and Mac OS machines. StorMacX i100 also supports business continuity efforts, disaster recovery projects, and disk based backups.
Snapshots for Nearline Recovery
The snapshot function enables an immediate point-in-time image of the share volume; snapshots are immediate or scheduled using the master task scheduler function allowing administrators the flexibility of planning their tasks around recovery goals and user activity levels. The snapshot images can later be used for consistent backup, while users still have uninterrupted and complete access to the shares. Snapshots can be used for data recovery or testing applications, since each snapshot is a read/write disk image. Multi-Snapshot with the scheduling function allows users to take a snapshot at a specified time (e.g., automatically every hour). If a user accidentally deletes or incorrectly modifies a file, he can still recover the data from a previous snapshot image.
Simple File and Volume Replication
StorMacX i100 features standard replications for local and remote sites for advanced data recovery. With the built-in replication function, administrators can create multiple copies of critical data housed locally or across the globe to ensure data is available in the event of a hardware or site failure. The StorMacX’s smart replication is delta based, each replication task compared individual files of volumes with the current copy, and only transmits the changes across the network, saving time and network bandwidth.
Built-in Backup Options
StorMacX i100 offers a master scheduler for backup related tasks including local backup functions, tape library migrations, virtual tape schedules, remote replication, and snapshot functions. The StorMacX i100 backup function supports local backup to external devices including USB disk drives, networked storage or additional Xserve® RAIDs for grab and go backups. With pre-installed backup agents for Veritas Backup Exec, EMC/Dantz Retrospect, and CA’s BrightStor, StorMacX i100 integrated into your existing backup environment seamlessly.
Support for Heterogeneous Environments
StorMacX i100 systems support for NFS, CIFS and Apple File Systems, allowing IT Departments can standardize on a single NAS platform for Windows, Linux, Unix and Apple machines. StorMacX i100 also supports Linux, Windows and Mac host machines for iSCSI storage networks.
